James A. Cogan
James Cogan currently concentrates his practice on international and domestic oil and gas transactions. He frequently provides legal services to foreign companies relating to their U.S. activities, including setting up U.S. subsidiaries and advising on U.S. export controls. His recent work has involved acquisition of working interests in leases of the Deepwater Gulf of Mexico, together with work on various agreements relating to operations under the leases, including Joint Operating, Construction and Use, Gathering, Transportation and Confidentiality Agreements.
In addition to practicing law, James is responsible for managing the daily operations of the firm. Prior to joining Cogan & Partners, James focused his practice on estate planning and representing closely held companies with business transactions and succession planning.
James is a member of the American and Houston Bar Associations and the State Bar of Texas. In law school, James was an active contributor to the Texas International Law Journal.
